Addressing the participants on a two-day training workshop on "Aquaculture and fisheries management for food and nutritional securities in Arunachal Pradesh" being conducted by CIFE here, Dr Lakra said the CIFE would make an in-depth analysis of the vast aquaculture resources of this Himalayan state and draw a map for increasing fish production in Arunachal to benefit the farmers, reported TimesofIndia.
He laid stress on fisheries as a branch of study that has good job prospects in the state.
Expressing concern at the illegal fishing practices, fisheries parliamentary secretary Karya Bagang asked the farmers to gain knowledge about the latest technologies used in pisciculture.
Arunachal's fish production was down compared to its rich natural resources, said fisheries secretary Dani Salu. He suggested that contribution of each fishery project to the state economy should be evaluated regularly.
On the varieties of fish species available in the state, the department's OSD D Das said 84 new fish species have been found in the state since 2000 increasing the total number to 215.
