FAO Help Build Fish Info Centre in Yemen

YEMEN - The Ministry of Fisheries signed earlier this week for a grant worth U$177 thousand from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to support establishing Fish Information Centre.

In a statement to the Saba Agency, Al-Sagiery said that the project is a practical guide to develop the statistical systems in the ministry, and said the center will provide the ministry with important information of the traditional and industrial fishing, reported the YemenPost. "The centre will provide a database for the management of fishery resources and enable the ministry to determine the level of stock fisheries in Yemen," Al-Sagiery added.

A lack of experience, finance and investment has resulted in the slow growth of the aquaculture sector in Yemen, international analysts said, adding that Yemeni fish exports faced a problem of not being allowed to sell their products in Saudi markets.
