ANALYSIS - Concern has been growing among farming, veterinary and political communities as well as the public at large over the over-use of antibiotics.

For a long time antibiotics had been used in livestock production not only as treatment for disease but also to stimulate growth and even as disease preventative measures.

However as they were used more and more, the concerns also grew that the over-use or misuse was promoting antibiotic resistance in humans.

Now, authorities are starting to introduce regulations to restrict the use of antibiotics for livestock production, but are these the true culprits causing antibiotic resistance in humans?
