Cold Weather Delays Vaccinations

NORWAY - January sales of vaccines for salmon reached 20 million doses down by 34 per cent on January 2008, according to the monthly report from Norwegian veterinary medicines group Pharmaq.

The company said that the main reason for the reduction is the cold weather and water temperatures in the Southern part of Norway delaying vaccination.

In 2009, vaccination doses for salmon went over 260 million - up by 8.7 per cent on 2008.

ISA vaccination doses sold in 2009 were 9.6 million compared to 2.5 million in 2008.

Pharmaq says that the number will increase significantly if the authorities open for an extended use of ISA vaccines, in 2010. Pharmaq estimates that the number of doses for ISA could reach 50 million.
