Chinese Aquaculture Companies Authorized to Export Products to Brazil

BEIJING - The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Farming and Supplies has authorized twenty four Chinese Aquacultural companies to sell their products in Brazil, according to the Department of Certification and Accreditation in Beijing on Monday.

A department spokesperson said that the Chinese companies, 19 of which are from Shandong province, and the remaining five from Liaoning province, can start exporting to Brazil immediately.

Brazil is currently the only country in Latin America to accept aquaculture products from China.

In 2006 exports of aquaculture products from China rose 18.7 percent to US$9.36 billion and imports rose 4.4 percent to US$4.3 billion, generating a trade surplus for this category of US$5.06 billion, or an annual growth rate of 34.3 percent.
