The latest Aquaculture Health Report, a document that provides information about the situation of Chilean salmon farming, stated that only two cases of ISA (HPR0) were detected in 2014.
Mr Burgos added: "In these two cases the stocks that were at risk had a very large volume. In the case of the outbreak in Chiloé center, more than 25 million fish were at risk and, in this case as in the second in Aysen, the disease was able to be controlled."
He stressed that 2014 had the recognition of the European Union regarding the control program for ISAv as Chile demonstrated it now has very good control of the disease.
Sealice
Sealice (Caligus rogercresseyi) numbers also improved in 2014 with a 50 per cent decrease in the number of Centers of High Spread (CAD) in the Region of Los Lagos compared to 2013, and a 53 per cent decline in the Aysen region.
Piscirickettsiosis
Piscirickettsiosis (SRS), according to the authority, is by far the biggest problem in the industry, however the situation is improving with a decrease in the prevalence of the disease.
