Bulgaria, Israel In Possible Future Cooperation

Economics Politics

GLOBAL - Bulgaria and Israel are discussing cooperation in the area of aquaculture systems.

"When we talk about agriculture, Bulgaria and Israel can start cooperation in the area of aquaculture systems," Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Foods, Miroslav Naydenov, said in an interview for Focus News Agency.

Mr Naydenov said Israel is a global leader in the area of aquaculture systems, because they live in a region with a chronic lack of water.

He added: "The other sphere of cooperation is in the area of safety and quality of foods. We will establish a special agency for food safety and quality soon. We can use the knowledge of our Israeli colleagues, who have a really good experience in the sphere, and we will take advantage of their assistance especially with regards to risk evaluation, control, and analysis."

During his meetings in Israel this week, Mr Naydenov has discussed the possibilities for Israeli investments in Bulgaria.

He explained: "Our agricultural land is bigger than the entire territory of Israel. We discussed joint projects, as we would provide the land, and Israel would provide the investments. We also discussed the sphere of high technologies, where Israel is also a lot more advanced than Bulgaria. We agreed to implement an operative control in order the Bulgarian companies working in Israel and the Israeli ones working in Bulgaria in the sphere of agriculture to take advantage of the administrative capacity."
