The Darwin Aquaculture Centre says the key to the achievement has been developing the right type of algae which is pumped from temperature controlled tanks into the crab ponds.
Aqua-scientist Glenn Schipp says the centre will be able to produce more mud crabs to meet Australian demand and it should also be able to enter the lucrative South-East Asian market.
