"Anyone interested in aquaculture is invited to attend this program," said Charles Felkner, Purdue Extension aquaculture educator. "This meeting will be a great opportunity to make contacts in the industry and gain insight into the business of aquaculture."
The spring meeting, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the Purdue Extension office in Marion County in Indianapolis. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the first conference speaker will follow at 9 a.m.
"During the meeting, there will be speakers presenting information on a variety of aquaculture topics," Felkner said. "One of those topics will deal with feeding programs for cool water fish species, presented by Dr. Paul Brown, fish nutritionist at Purdue University."
Other guest speakers include: Noel Ruzzito, manager of the Purdue Aquaculture Research Center, providing an update on the major research projects just completed and those that are scheduled at the center; Chris Breeden, director of the Illinois Fish Farmers Co-op, discussing the changes in operations and the new focus of the co-op; Charles Santerre, associate professor of foods and nutrition at Purdue, talking about the nutritional benefits of raising farm-fresh fish; and Mark Einstein, webmaster for AquaNIC, demonstrating how to use the Internet to find aquaculture information.
