Aquaculture Expert Appointed At The Fish Company

Post-harvest

UK - The Fish Company has announced the appointment of aquaculture expert Dr Adrian Hartley, as Sales and Production Manager. Dr Hartley has a wealth of experience in maximising the sustainability, efficiency and profitability of the aquaculture industry, through both research and development and marketing.

Prior to joining The Fish Company Dr Hartley worked for Loch Duart and before that he was with Regal Springs in Mexico for three years, where he had overall responsibility for its tilapia production. Dr Hartley has a MSc. and Ph.D. in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling and is an industry expert on production systems for fish farming, and for tilapia in particular.

Since its launch in 2009, The Fish Company’s sales of British tilapia have continued to grow, and it now has listings in national retailers and with wholesalers and caterers. Dr Hartley will be building on this success and seeking out new opportunities for tilapia, at home and abroad. He will also be overseeing The Fish Company’s production of British tilapia at its three farms in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire and using his expertise to ensure that the fish continues to be produced to the highest sustainable standards.

Dr Hartley explained why he is delighted to be joining The Fish Company: “I firmly believe sustainable aquaculture as practiced by The Fish Company is an excellent way to satisfy the growing global demand for high quality and ethically farmed white fish. It is very exciting to be joining such a forward thinking and innovative company that has really set the UK standard for farming tilapia.”

Part of Dr Hartley’s role will be to oversee the continuing and ongoing investment The Fish Company has placed in its production facilities, for example the recirc systems which ensure the welfare of the fish. He will be maximising all opportunities to ensure the farms are as sustainable as possible and investigating new technologies as part of the company’s commitment to the ethical production of high quality, fresh tilapia.
