NEW ZEALAND - The New Zealand Government is determined to get behind the aquaculture industry in the country.

According to a report in the Nelson Mail, the Government is is preparing to act on the results of an independent review that recommends abolishing the Aquaculture Management Area scheme.

Fisheries Minister Phil Heatley told the Mail that the government wanted to give the aquaculture industry a kick start.

The review, which was carried out by the previous government and the industry, is expected to go before government ministers at the end of this month.

It is believed to put forward options if the Aquaculture Management Scheme is abolished.

Mr Heatley told the Mail that he oped the outcome of the review would streamline the industry, boost the economy and create jobs.
