Alex Markham

Alex joined Encourage Capital - where he specialises in sustainable fisheries finance and other environmental investment opportunities - in 2013 after receiving his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. During his MBA, he interned for The Nature Conservancy and The Natural Capital Project, working on their Latin American water funds initiative. Prior to business school, he served as a Lorry I Lokey fellow in the Environmental Defense Fund’s Ocean Innovations programme, where he spearheaded their Ecomarkets initiative. Alex was born in Nairobi, Kenya and has travelled extensively throughout Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia as a field-researcher, wildlife photographer, scuba diver and fisherman.
