Alain Michel

Alain Michel is one of the world's true pioneers of shrimp aquaculture and was involved in the development of the shrimp farming industry in Ecuador, Colombia, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Fiji, helping to enable the mass production of post-larvae in hatcheries from captive shrimp. He went on to become a director of the fishery and aquaculture research department at IFREMER, before working on barramundi, shrimp and sea cucumber farming projects. Since his retirement he has been working as a consultant, specialising on disease mitigation using hyperthermia for boosting the innate immune system of the host.

My objective in this article is to challenge pathologists, immunologists and farmers by asking for a critical analysis on the application of a simple temperature manipulation, hyperthermia, to boost the innate immune system of fish.
