Ever increasing amounts of seafood are being commercially grown rather than caught
in the wild, In fact some experts predict that within 25 years half of everything we eat
from the sea will be farmed.
Adelaide will be the place to find out what's new in this rapidly expanding food
sector. There will be an international expert to talk about every aspect of this global
industry and the opportunities that exist for Australasian farmers.
Everything from the growing of yellow tail kingfish and southern bluefin tuna .. to
inland fish farming using saline ground water discharged from along the River
Murray .. to meeting the market requirements of the supermarket giants will be
presented in specially themed sessions by relevant and entertaining speakers.
The conference from the 27th to the 30th of August will highlight "Innovation in
Aquaculture" and will attract delegates from around the world.
Our naming rights sponsor, Skretting is the world's leading producer of fish feed for
aquaculture. Skretting Group Managing Director Viggo Halseth, a member of the
European Union's Sustainable Aquaculture Forum, will be a guest speaker at the
conference.
Viggo will be joined by Australian Nutritionist Dr. Rosemary Stanton and experts in
areas such as offshore aquaculture, aquaponics, organic shrimp and prawn farming,
tuna production, oyster and shellfish growing to name only a few , for three days of
presentations and discussions.
Also at the venue, hundreds of aquaculture and business suppliers will form the
largest aquaculture trade exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere, welcoming new and
future growers to the industry.
The National Aquaculture Council of Australia in partnership with the World
Aquaculture Society's Asia-Pacific Chapter and the South Australian Aquaculture
Council will host the event.
The Chairman of the conference organising Committee Bruce Zippel says it's a great
chance for those in the aquaculture industry already .. and people who are thinking of
riding the aquaculture wave .. to catch up on the latest trends and opportunities.
"Australian aqua-culturists are among the most innovative in the industry .. but we
can always learn something from overseas experts .. and this conference is the ideal
place to do it" says Mr Zippel.
"Many Australian primary producers are looking to supplement their incomes or to
move into a more rewarding vocation .. and fish farming is very attractive". "The
conference program has now been finalised and it sensational" he said.
Those wishing to attend Australasian Aquaculture 2006 .. either as exhibitors or
delegates will need to register soon to be assured of inclusion.
Earlybird discounts end on the 26th of May.
