White Tail in Australia

AUSTRALIA - White Tail Disease has been found in farmed giant fresh water prawns in Queensland, Australia.

A report to the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE)said the disease has been caused by Machrobrachium rosenbergii nodavirus.

Infection is in the brood stock and F1 juveniles from aquaria in a research facility in Townsville.

The wild brood stock were originally sourced from the Flinders River in North Queensland.

The source of the outbreak is unknown at present.

The OIE said there are no control measures to put in place and vaccination is prohibited.
