Successful salmon breeding project, spawns more farms

VIET NAM - A pilot project to breed salmon in Lam Dong province in Vietnams central highlands has yielded good results, delegates told a conference held to assess the program in Dalat Monday.

Huynh Duc Hoa, head of the province people’s committee, said the fish weighed 1.2kg on average and yield per hectare of pond was 30 tons.

The project was undertaken by the Aquaculture Research Institute and local scientists.

The fish were raised in rafts at Tuyen Lam, Da Thien, and Suoi Vang lakes in Dalat, Quang Hiep lake 40 kilometers southeast of the city, and other lakes in the remote Hiep Thanh commune.

Following the pilot’s excellent results many companies and agencies are planning to breed salmon in the province.

Besides, sturgeon farming is being piloted by the HCMC-based Ha Quang Joint Stock company.
