The module will examine current production practices including freshwater and marine operations (both in shore and offshore) for a number of fish and shrimp species. The impact of these operations will be examined in terms of environmental, economic and cultural sustainability. A number of production practices such as area management, fallowing and coordinated harvesting have evolved to reduce impact of operations and these will be evaluated.
Certification and accreditation schemes are being used increasingly in aquaculture operations to ensure product quality, safety and sustainability. These will be introduced in this module.
The next course starts in October 2012. Interested parties can find out further details here.
