Commenting on the new website, Sid Patten, Chief Executive of SSPO, said: “The site will help to raise awareness of SSPO and build on its credibility as a trusted source of information, helping to increase stakeholder, regulator and consumer confidence.
“It provides all those with an interest in our industry with up-to-date, reliable information from authoritative sources about the issues that influence salmon farming in Scotland,” he added. The website, www.scottishsalmon.co.uk, incorporates a new feature on the Code of Good Practice for Scottish Finfish Aquaculture, a pre-requisite of membership to SSPO. The continued availability of the various Product Certification Schemes e.g. Tartan Quality Mark, Label Rouge in France and Protected Geographic Indicator (PGI) Scottish Farmed Salmon is also highlighted as an optional extra benefit of membership to SSPO.
A new feature on the website is links to the latest UK and European reports affecting the industry, from economic and environmental reports to the Scottish and European aquaculture strategies, through to the UK consumption advice and the European Food Safety Authority’s safety assessment of wild and farmed fish.
The website also includes a strong media section devoted to press releases, position statements and images, as well as a robust consumer section with the latest consumption and healthy eating advice from UK food regulators.
