Participants received lectures and audiovisual training in Spanish and Guarani, in relation to the use of appropriate technologies for the development of fish production. Each participant also received reference material to assist in the expansion of knowledge in a field that is increasingly gaining momentum in the country.

Official data shows that aquaculture is growing in the country. Tilapia is the most popular species (80 per cent), both for consumption and for sale, followed followed by pacu and carp.

One of the initial requirements to undertake aquaculture production is physically limited by the need to use existing water bodies or water resources adjacent to suitable land.

These basic needs restrict options for the species you want to grow or the systems that can be used.

Animal Welfare in Aquaculture was developed so that fish farms operate responsibly to reach compliance with the Code of Practice of the (FAO), Rome 1995), whose objective is to minimise any negative impact on human health and the environment, including any potential ecological change.

For aquaculture activities in Paraguay 3556 law of 2008 is the law today.
