“The consultation launch is an extremely positive commitment by the Scottish Government to see an ambitious, profitable and sustainable aquaculture industry.
“We welcome this new vision and the endorsement of the salmon industry’s priorities, and hope that it will bring greater social, economic and sustainable benefits to farmers and the many remote, rural businesses that are reliant on the success of the sector.
“Improving competitiveness and good governance in the £400 million per annum aquaculture industry will encourage further investment, which is key to enhancing environmental sustainability and delivering greater social and economic rewards.
“Since the launch of the original framework in 2003 there have been many achievements, including the delivery of the industry Code of Good Practice, the establishment of the Scottish Aquaculture Research Forum and improved environmental modelling systems and performance.
“As worldwide demand for sustainable seafood from aquaculture is increasing, this new vision will help to promote the sector as a long-term viable business.”
