Russian inspectors: Mould and Rust In Norwegian Salmon plants

NORWAY - Russian inspectors have finished their control of ten Norwegian seafood producers, and report that they have found rust and mould in some production facilities.

The Norwegian Food Inspectorate has accompanied the Russian inspectors, and section head Ingunn Midttun Systad confirms that the Russians have found sub standard coniditons at some plants.

There have been incidents where rust and mould have been found in the production halls. We do not comment on isolated finds, but in some cases we have no problems agreeing with the Russian inspectors, she says.

Last December the Russian authorities stopped all import of Norwegian salmon, claiming they had found too high a level of lead and cadmium in the fish.
