The ICAR and regional research centre, Vijayawada, organised an interactive workshop on application of nanotechnology in aquaculture and fisheries, reports the HansIndia.
Addressing the meeting the principal scientist said that though the application of nanotechnology in aquaculture is still at infant stage, it has the potential to solve many of the problems associated with aquaculture.
He said at present, research is going on in application of metal and metal oxide nano particles for control of bacterial bio film, fungal infection and algae blooms for immunomodulation as feed additives, development of antimicrobial, anti algae and antifouling coating for water remediatin, enrichment of micronutrient content of fish fillets and improving colour of fish. The scientist said by using nanotechnology the feed consumption also comes down.
