Thereafter, these crabs will also be made available to fishermen for breeding, reports BusinessMega.
According to a senior official of the Ministry of Fisheries, the crabs will be bred in a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS).
"As a first step, a pilot project of 10,000 boxes of crabs will be launched with the support of the Albion Fisheries Research Centre," he told Le Matinal.
Another project being considered by the Ministry of Fisheries is seaweed farming. "We have already started this culture at Rodrigues on an experimental basis. This can be very successful especially for the economy because many Asian countries consume this product," he concluded.
