Malaysian Tiger Prawns To Be Exported To US, EU
MALAYSIA - Tiger prawns which is popular among Malaysians will soon be exported to other countries, especially the US and the European Union.
Monday, the Farmers Organisation Authority (LPP) and a fishing company from India, Suvarna Rekha Marines (I) Private Limited (SRM), signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation to carry out the breeding of tiger prawns on a mass scale.
The general manager of LPP, Datuk Nozir Ahmad Hussain said SRM had carried out a three-year study conducted by its chairman Dr.C. Babu Rao and Dr. K. J Rao, former chief scientist at the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture in Orissa, India.
"SRM has the expertise, technology and capability to carry out the project. The company will also export the products to the international market," he said after the signing Monday.
Under the project, SRM will be signing an agreement with the Regional Farmers Association (PPK) where its members, comprising padi farmers, will provide the area for the breeding of the prawns.
