FRS Gets Grant for New Research Facility

SCOTLAND, UK - Fisheries Research Services (FRS) today was granted planning permission for a new scientific research facility.

Situated next to the existing FRS Marine Laboratory in Torry, Aberdeen, the Fish Veterinary Aquaria (FVA) will further strengthen the health of Scotland’s aquaculture and aquatic environment.

Comprising an aquarium, laboratories, office accommodation and staff facilities area, the FVA will replace current facilities to meet the changing demands of contemporary science.

Ron Stagg, Deputy Chief Executive of FRS said: “We are delighted that planning permission has been granted for this addition to our facilities. The FVA will provide a world class facility that will further our high quality research regarding the health of Scotland’s aquaculture industry and wild fish stocks”

The FVA development will be working with a total budget of £15m, with construction beginning March 2009 for a completion date of April 2010.
