The carnival received 25,000 visitors, a significant increase on last years figures making it the most successful event yet, said the Brunei Times. The main objective was to showcase the country's fisheries sector and attract increased sales from the activities and produces of local companies and government agencies that participated in the event.
Hjh Hasnah Ibrahim, Director of the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources said the event had proved very successful. She was assured of the determined efforts by the Department of Fisheries to increase the performance of future carnivals and that the department was open to any ideas and suggestions from the public in making future carnivals more festive and successful.
The ceremony was held at the carnival venue at the Muara Fish Landing Complex where more than 70 local entrepreneurs involved in the fisheries industry, particularly the capture, aquaculture and down stream industry especially seafood processing, as well as from fisheries support services, were among the participants.

MUARA - Business transactions worth $125,000 were agreed during Brunei's the four-day Fisheries Carnival 2008.
