Fishery, aquaculture badly hurt by tsunami
ASIA - The recent earthquake in the Indian Ocean and subsequent tsunami had devastating effects on the fishing sector of the affected countries, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Friday. FAO noted that in Sri Lanka more than 7,500 fishers were killed by the tsunami wave following the earthquake and more than 5,600 are missing, and ten out of the 12 most important ports in the country have been destroyed.
