Fisheries scientists fail to hook enough funding for technology
TASMANIA - Fisheries scientists say they are struggling to find the money they need to keep up to date with technology for their research.
More than 300 scientists from around the world are in Hobart for the Australian Society for Fish Biology conference.
Professor Colin Buxton, from the Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute, says conference workshops have focused on new technology.
He says many delegates have highlighted the need for more funding to pay for this equipment.
"Counting fish is a bit like counting trees, but they're invisible and they move around a lot," he said.
