Eastern Tuna And Billfish Mgt Plan 2010

Politics

AUSTRALIA - The new Eastern Tuna and Billfish Management Plan 2010 has been accepted and comes into effect on 22 January 2011.

Once the new plan comes into effect all statutory fishing right (SFR) holders under the old plan (The Eastern Tuna and Billfish Management Plan 2005) will hold ‘SFR Options’. An SFR Option entitles the holder to an allocation of quota SFRs under the new plan.

AFMA will write to all SFR Option holders requesting that they ‘exercise’ their options for the allocation of SFRs. This means that if you wish to be allocated SFRs under the new plan you must inform AFMA in writing.

The AFMA Commission is meeting on 24 January 2011 and will determine the Total Allowable Commercial Catch for the fishery along with other determinations that are required under the new plan. Operators will be advised of the outcomes of the Commission meeting.

Once the allocation process is complete, quota based management will commence in the ETBF on 1 March 2011.
