California takes lead with fish farming regulations bill
CALIFORNIA - California would impose some of the world's toughest restrictions on fish farming under a bill sent to Governor Schwarzenegger by the Senate.
No commercial fish farming exists off California's coasts yet. But the federal government wants more aquaculture to help relieve pressure on wild fish populations.
Supporters say the state can address problems that have plagued other areas by setting standards for environmental reviews and leases for use of state-controlled waters.
