Abalone Council wants farm review as disease spreads

TASMANIA - The Abalone Council of Tasmania has renewed calls for a review of abalone farms, as a deadly disease continues to spread towards Tasmania. </b> <br><br> Parts of a Bass Strait fishery will be closed next week in a bid to stop the herpes-like disease reaching it. <br><br> Ganglioneuritis was found in Victorian abalone farms early this year and is continuing to spread east. <br><br> The president of Tasmania&#39;s Abalone Council, Dean Lisson, wants abalone farm and processors&#39; effluent handling examined. <br><br> &quot;Part of our discussions will consider the possible further treatment of effluent to reduce the risk of bacterial or viral infections travelling from abalone farms into the wild,&quot; he said. <br><br> <i>Source: ABC Online </i>
