US experts to boost prawn export industry

BORNEO - The Minister of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) predicted the contribution of non-oil sector to be 50% in 10 years' time, and that the fisheries sector could contribute to the country's economic diversification.

The non-oil sector contribution in 1991 was 37.7%. Hence the country's economic diversification programme (after 15 years) is heading towards the right path and positive direction, said Pehin Dato Dr. Hj Ahmad at the launching of the fishery carnival at Fish Landing Complex yesterday.

Meanwhile, to further boost the production of prawn for the export market, services of experts from the United States were acquired by His Majesty's government.

He also said the government agreed to acquire the services of consultants and experts from Integrated Aquaculture International Company from the United States to establish and develop the hi-tech prawn breeding industry.
