Sea cage aquaculture may harm tourism, says Conservation Council

NEW ZEALAND - The Queensland Conservation Council (QCC) is warning Hervey Bay tourism may be affected if sea cage aquaculture is given the green light.

The QCC says Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay have been identified by the State Government as suitable locations for fish farming.

The Government has called for public submissions to its draft policy for the marine aquaculture sector.

The QCC's Simon Baltais says sea cage farming is similar to cattle feedlots and that water pollution from the sea cages will lower water quality in the surrounding area.
