NZ evaluates Fin fish opportunities
NEW ZEALAND - A South Island Salmon company is among those evaluating new fin fish farming ventures that the government has indicated it is keen to see developed in the North Island.
Fisheries Minister Jim Anderton announced at the annual aquaculture industry conference in Nelson last week that aquaculture has been formally added to the government's agenda as a development priority.
Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard also launched a new strategy aimed at tripling aquaculture's value to more than $1 billion by 2025.
Mallard says the government may work with the industry to establish fin fish farming in the North Island.
New Zealand King Salmon chief executive, Paul Steere, says it will be looking for opportunities to expand north.
