Opening the event, environmental affairs director-general Pam Yako told delegates aquaculture held “a great potential to meet the challenge of poverty, and at the same time alleviate the burden of over-harvesting in our oceans”.

Attending are representatives from the aquaculture and fishing industry, communities, labour and government.

Key issues include training and skills development, the economics of aquaculture, technological needs and environmental protection.
