Malaysia plans to promote Australian fish-breeding technology nationwide

MALAYSIA - Malaysia is planning to expand nationwide Fish Protech, a method of breeding fish in recycled water within buildings, in a bid to boost the country's aquaculture output.

Malaysian Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Tuesday that the technology, developed by Australia and being on a trial run at Sepang in the state of Selangor, was appropriate for Malaysia.

The Malaysia Fisheries Development Board had formed a joint venture with Fish Protech Pty Ltd of Australia to develop the system at places like Sepang, he said.

The joint-venture is working on the technology that reportedly entails growing fish indoor using layers of biological and technical water recycling system which is efficient and environment-friendly.
