Garrett questions approval of SA abalone farm

AUSTRALIA - Federal Labor MP Peter Garrett is asking Parliament why a large-scale abalone farm has been approved off Eyre Peninsula's west coast in South Australia, despite evidence it could harm threatened species.

South Australia's Department of Primary Industries and Resources has consented to the aquaculture development near an internationally significant Australian sea lion colony.

Conservationist Joe Taylor says there is evidence the 15,000 square metres of netting will devastate threatened species.
