Fisheries official calls for improved fish farming plan

VIETNAM - Breeding higher quality catfish and lowering soil and water pollution in aquatic farming areas would ensure the future of the tra and basa catfish industry, a fisheries official has said. </b> <br><br> Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, said the ministry needed a better master plan on catfish farming to prevent worsening environmental pollution and an unstable export market. <br><br> Minh spoke at a recent seminar in Can Tho City on tra and basa catfish breeding through 2010. <br> Nguyen Thanh Phuong, head of the Fisheries Faculty of Can Tho University, said the expansion of catfish farming had come at the expense of environmental pollution and high quality products. <br> Clean production technology was also important for sustainable development, Phuong said. <br><br> <i>Source: Vietnam Economic Times</i>
