Some 50 barramundi farmers and suppliers were recently in Townsville to discuss prospects for the industry and also set production targets for the next year.
Association president Neil Hallaghan said the outlook for the industry is good although he thinks barramundi may lose its status as an Australian icon.
He added that Australian barramundi is superior to the cheap Indonesian sea bass and the association has been working hard to differentiate their product.
