Politics

AUSTRALIA - Warrnambool-based commercial rock lobster fisherman was convicted and fined $2,400 in the Colac Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday July 26) for setting lobster pots in the 12 Apostles Marine National Park near Port Campbell.

Responding to a phone call to the 24-hour reporting line, 13 FISH (13 3474), Fisheries officers intercepted the fishing vessel on February 24 as it was heading back to port.

Department of Primary Industries (DPI) prosecutor Paul Millar told the court the 38 year old man, once intercepted, admitted to setting 28 rock-lobster pots within the boundaries of the Marine National Park.
