Disease guideInfection with abalone herpes-like virus

What is it?

Abalone herpes-like virus (AbHV) is the aetiological agent of abalone viral ganglioneuritis (AVG) a contagious viral disease of abalone in Australia and possibly abalone species in other countries.

However, whilst the relationship between the Australian viral isolate(s) and other herpes-like viral isolates has not, as yet, been elucidated, it is suggested that this virus is the second member of the Malacoherpesviridae along with Ostreid Herpesvirus-1.

For more information please see abalone viral ganglioneuritis (AVG).
