Umami Bioworks*, a Singapore-based biotechnology company specialising in marine cell cultivation, has expanded its AI-powered platform to produce high-quality, animal-free and scalable marine bioactives. As part of this expansion, Umami Bioworks has also unveiled the world’s first animal-free polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), a rapidly emerging marine ingredient used in skincare, wound healing and regenerative medicine.

Traditionally derived from purified DNA extracted from salmon or trout sperm, PDRN production faces challenges related to supply consistency, ethical concerns and biosecurity risks. Umami Bioworks’ proprietary cell biology platform offers a breakthrough alternative: PDRN derived from cultivated marine cell lines under precisely controlled conditions, eliminating the need to transport salmon testicles worldwide and delivering a bioequivalent product.

“We are rethinking how bioactives like PDRN are made. Our platform provides a scalable, animal-free source of PDRN with optimised yields and the flexibility to meet growing global demand through localized production,” said Gayathri Mani, product manager at Umami Bioworks, in a press release.

The global market for PDRN is projected to grow rapidly across skincare and medical applications, fuelled by rising consumer demand for regenerative, anti-aging and ethically sourced solutions. Umami Bioworks is uniquely positioned to serve this need, offering B2B partners a next-generation solution that meets both performance and sustainability standards.

Already collaborating with industry leaders, Umami Bioworks has a growing pipeline of partners in personal care and regenerative health, set to co-create formulations and launch novel PDRN-based products.
