Wish to study Sustainable Aquaculture at a higher postgraduate level, with a focus on either vertebrates (fish) or invertebrates (shellfish etc.).

and

Already have a good first degree (BSc or equivalent) in a relevant biological subject

or

Have been working in an area of the aquaculture industry for a number of years and wish to obtain a higher professional qualification to develop your career.

 
 

Aims to develop:


  • Your knowledge and understanding of the principles of aquaculture and the diversity of species cultured, value of markets and global trade
  • An understanding and critical evaluation of the development of sustainable aquaculture practices
  • A critical understanding of the development of aquaculture at the global level and its relation to traditional fisheries
  • A capacity to critically assess new aquaculture developments in terms of commercial, technical, environmental and social considerations
  • Skills of literature searching, the use of open source material, and the synthesis of information from multi-disciplinary sources
  • Skills in research design and analysis using both qualitative and quantitative techniques
 
 

Entry Requirements:

An upper second class honours degree in Biological Science or other relevant discipline from a U.K. university or its foreign equivalent or other appropriate qualification will normally be required. Overseas students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English as well as meeting the other entrance requirements. A satisfactory result to current University entry requirements in a recognised test of English Language competence (e.g. IELTS score or a TOEFL score) is required.

In line with the University's drive to widen access, entry will also be offered following successful completion of the undergraduate Certificate in Sustainable Aquaculture in conjunction with additional evidence of relevant professional experiential learning (RPEL)
