Prawn farmers don’t want introduction of exotic varieties
Over 1 lakh small prawn farmers in the country are up in arms against the introduction of exotic varieties of prawns, especially the Pacific-based P Vannamei. Farmers fear foreign prawns will destroy native tiger prawns, which constitute 92% of the country's cultured prawns and 94% of export earnings.

SSA for anti-dumping duty review of 250 shrimp exporters
KOCHI, INDIA - Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA), the US petitioners for the anti-dumping duty on shrimp, have once again filed applications for review of over 250 Indian shrimp exporters when there are just 74 firms that have exported to the US during the second review period.

Ministry Expects RM1.6 Bln Boost For Aquaculture Industry
The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry aims to draw private sector investments worth RM1.6 billion including from overseas for the development of the aquaculture industry under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

Malaysia Targets China, Opens Agriculture Office In Beijing
Malaysia has opened an agriculture office in China, reports Bernama, its second overseas after the Netherlands. The office will help fruit and fisheries producers penetrate the huge Chinese market.

Thai shrimp farmers plea for scrutiny of Australian aquaculture products
THAILAND - The Thai Marine Shrimp Farmers' Association has called on the Fishery Department to implement Import Risk Analysis (IRA) on aquaculture products imported from Australia to prevent GAV and MoV viruses from spreading in the Kingdom, reports The Nation.

  Suriname

Suriname sets up fish inspection bureau to avert ban
In an attempt to avert an imminent ban of fisheries products to the European Union (EU), the Suriname government has set up a fish inspection institute as required by the EU, writes Ivan Cairo on Caribbean Net News.

Reminder to boost as ERM vaccination season starts
Schering-Plough Aquaculture UK - Trout farmers are being reminded of the benefits of planning an oral boost to follow immersion vaccination for ERM this season. The oral boost is intended to extend the protection induced by primary immersion vaccination. It is included in feed and can be provided up to 4-6 months after immersion vaccination.
