Hygiene key for Thai shrimp farmers

Shrimp Health +2 more

The importance of maintaining hatchery hygiene was a key talking point at one of Thailand’s principle shrimp farming conference and exhibitions last month.

Organised by the Chanthaburi Shrimp Farmers’ Club, it included a booth run by Allvet, the distributor of Halamid disinfectant. Amongst the visitors to the booth was the Thai minister of Agriculture, who was informed about Halamid and the advantages its use gives to shrimp health, farmers’ profits and the environment by Allvet’s Dr Pichai Pitaktrakulsiri (DVM).

Paul van Lenthe, executive director of Axcentive, said: “The feedback I got from existing Halamid users was very positive. The mild properties of Halamid in combination with its extremely effective disinfection make it their product of choice. Nobody can make that more clear than the farmer himself! With some disease problems in Thailand overcome, 2018 is bound to be an excellent year for Halamid.”

Axcentive and its distributor Allvet are not claiming Halamid to be a miracle product like some other suppliers do, however, and certain situations such as a viral disease, once well established at a farm, cannot be cured by any disinfectant and require starting with a clean set up after emptying and cleaning the ponds and all associated infrastructure.

The Allvet team were eye-catchingly attired in flashy orange jackets and succeeded in fostering relationships with both new and existing Halamid customers.
